Rusalka

The stage performance was outstanding, the photographic work was superb, unfortunately the sound reproduction was terrible, I assume the problem was locally at the No 12 theater at the Edward on I 10 location. Every expect of an operatic performance can be superb but if the sound is defective, the joy is damaged.

The music was beautiful..and the singing of Renee Fleming magnificent--but the sets were eternally DARK--not a relief in sight.....was the darkest stage setting I've seen in a long time!

I am not fond of the plot/libretto. But the weaknesses in the plot are overshadowed by the Dvorak soaring score, the superb talent of Renee Fleming and the supporting cast members, and the compelling scenic effects. A great operatic experience.

Met Opera: Rusalka

Production: Beautiful, atmospheric. Orchestra: nothing short of perfection. Singers all top drawer, Renee Fleming is beyond comparison in this role. The theater, however, had a technical malfunction they never got fixed by the end of the opera. We went through the entire four hours with the 16 x 9 image squeezed into a 4 x 3 aspect ratio. Of course that distorted everything. While the theater manager wasn't able to get the problem fixed, he did issue refunds. Now I'm eager for this to be issued on DVD, hopefully in Blu-Ray!
