I have been an opera fan for over 60 years. Dvorak and Czech are not my preferred choices. But who can resist water & wood nymphs and the pond ogre. Really great singing and music. It's a disappointment that Renee Fleming doesn't sing in the second act but, two out of three is ok. Perhaps what is a terrific plus with Opera in HD is all the backstage action. I pity the audience that doesn't get this PLUS. For some reason we did not get as much backstage as in previous operas. Met Opera sets are mesmerizing but not more than the great voices

The production was wonderful. It was glorious to see and to listen to. The cast was excellent. The theater was comfortable and the staff at the theater was most gracious. JFL

Rusalka - Met Opera

We first saw this orera in Prague. Since it was written by Dvorak, a Czech composer and performed in the National Theatre in Prague, it seemed like a good thing to do. The opera was very good and even had English surtitles. But the Met production of Rusalka blew away the Prague version. It was so intimate, the music so real and beautiful, the characters so close and personal. We felt like we could step into the screen and be part of the action. We had season tickets for 31 years at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. And it was great. But we were far from the stage and, even with binoculars, we never felt really close to what was happening. In the theater, we are on top of of every aria, chorus, and action. Next year's productions look fabulous ! We would like to go to all 10 operas.

This was my first opera at the movies and was I IMPRESSED!! Seeing the facial expressions on the conductor, actors/actresses made all the difference as did the reasonable cost of the tickets at 1/3 of the price of a live performance downtown for seats in the nosebleed section. The performers were excellent and their voices!! Exquisite! The sets were beautifully done as well. I'll never go downtown to see an opera again...and you can't beat free parking!
