Rusalka

Amazing performance, as always, from the Met. The sets were beautiful and the behind the scenes interviews and views of the stage and set construction are both enjoyable and fascinating. Renee Fleming performs flawlessly, as usual, and while the story is a simple, yet tragic, fairy tale of love and tragedy, and Dvorak's music elevates it to an amazing listening experience. If you cannot make it to NYC to watch a performance live this is the next best thing.

Metropolitan Opera - Live in HD : Rusalka

Rusalka (Antonin Dvorak) is surely one of Renee Fleming's "signature roles", particularly her version of the "Song to the Moon". The Met's HD Live Webcast was all that one could have asked of this production; the sets were lush "period" in nature, the acting and singing were divine in all respects, particularly in the characterizations of Renee Fleming (who has been dong this role for more than 25 years), and Dolora Zajick as the witch, Jezubaba. The other portrayals included wonderful renderings of the wood nymphs, the Water Gnome, the Foreign Princess (Emily McGee), and the Prince (Piotr Beczgala) The HD webcast format can add to the drama if the acting is superb or can be unforgiving if it is appalling; happily, the former was true in this case. 'And the Czech music of Dvorak...absolutely blazes forth in all its glory, conducted masterfully and with the greatest sensitivity by the youthful Maestro Seguin ! If you want to see opera from the Met at its finest, go see Rusalka

Met Opera: Rusalka

Production: Beautiful, atmospheric. Orchestra: nothing short of perfection. Singers all top drawer, Renee Fleming is beyond comparison in this role. The theater, however, had a technical malfunction they never got fixed by the end of the opera. We went through the entire four hours with the 16 x 9 image squeezed into a 4 x 3 aspect ratio. Of course that distorted everything. While the theater manager wasn't able to get the problem fixed, he did issue refunds. Now I'm eager for this to be issued on DVD, hopefully in Blu-Ray!

It was an extraordinary performance by Renee Fleming and other members of the cast. My wife and I regularly attend on screen Met Opera productions; it is a wonderful way to experience some of the greatest operas ever written.

Not my favorite opera BUT wanted to see one of Rene Fleming's last roles before she retires. Her voice excellent, story not so great. Costumes great.
