Absolutely riveting opera. Joyce DiDonato and Elze van den Heever outdid themselves vocally and with unbelievable acting. I've seldom seen acting to rival theirs on the opera stage. Donizetti's work will now be performed more often here I'm sure. The costumes alone, especially Elze's, who played Queen Elizabeth, were worth the trip.

A very dramatic presentation and I must say I was most impressed by the stage design and costumes this time. Colorful, impressive and well-proportioned for the whole stage (unlike some of the previous shows).

Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda,” recounts the clash between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart (Mary, Queen of Scots) and ends with Mary heading to the executioner’s block. Everything is beautifully done and orchestrated! The entire cast is so talented, the costumes amazing, and the sets so artistic and symbolic. The camera work for the live HD is likewise awesome with very artful compositions of the scenes. The production stars the great American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the title role. The entire cast is superb as are the musicians and the conductor. In her Met debut, Elza van den Heever, a 33-year-old South African soprano is also wonderful as the emotionally tempestuous Elizabeth (Elisabetta). She was so committed to this role that she shaved her head to accommodate the queen’s elaborat

this opera Maria Stuarda is wonderful. Joyce Di Donato was artistically up to the role. Her acting and singing was sublime. The rest of the cast were great. Must see opera and performance.

What a spectacular performance. The staging, the voices, the sets the costumes none of it could have been better. Also sitting in a comfortable seat and being up close it was a most enjoyable afternoon. One could ask for nothing more., For anyone whop has not taken advantage of seeing a live performance from the Met I urge you to seek out a theater close to home for a most rewarding experience.
