We thoroughly enjoyed Les Troyens!

There was a point in the show when there was so much roaring noise from an adjacent theater that we could hardly hear our opera. The manager did, I think, turn down the sound in the other theater when someone complained. Also, the sound was "flat" and did not sound as if we were getting surround sound. We were unsure if that was the transmission or the theater. However, we are so glad you continue to bring these shows to your theater!

A rare opera, done brilliantly

I have vaguely intended to see “Les Troyens” ever since I encountered a description of it in my father’s old Kobbe, but this was the first chance I had. I generally don’t care much for French opera, but Berlioz is a much more interesting composer than most—after all, he was one of the very, very few who could make even Wagner sit up and pay attention. My wife and I found this performance brilliant. If we had any complaint, it was that it was too dark—but life-from-the-Met videos always have been, whether on broadcast or when done by Fathom. There’s only so much that can be done to adapt a stage production for the camera.

A great Metropolitan Opera production of a great opera seen on HD in the theater. What a way to see an opera performed thousands of miles away in real time.

Dazzling

Troyens is a difficult opera to stage, because of the vast resources required. This is the sort of thing that only a house like the MET should attempt. This revival of a 2003 production came equipped with 110 choristers, at lest 30 dancers, countless supernumeraries AND Susan Graham in the greatest performance I have heard by ANYBODY! I literally wept with emotion at the end. If you want the VERY BEST, don't miss the encore presentation!

My husband and I used to live in NY and had a Met subscription for many years but never saw this one. We loved it and we are very grateful to our local Regal Theater (Ocala, FL) for making it possible for us to see it easily. We had been to the Met in HD at a theater 30 miles away on 2 occasions but for the replay, not matinee. The live broadcast was even better than the evening replay. I look forward to seeing the new Rigoletto and others. The costumes, sets, direction, dance, chorus and soloists were phenomenal! And the between acts interviews were insightful. All together it was a wonderful afternoon.
