Yesterday's L'Elisir d'Amore was a winner, for sure. I've never really cared for the slapstick approach to this work and felt this production did the work justice. Netrebko, once again, showed what a great operatic singing actress can be. Polenzani gave the best performance I've ever seen or heard him do. The woman in back of me was near fainting when he finished Una Furtiva Lagrima.I realized I was holding my breath. It was even better than I had expected and I had heard two broadcasts (via Sirius) last week. Then, there was Kwiecien! I'm amazed at his talent and versitility. King Roger, Giovanni, Pasquale, L'Elisir. He is absolutely amazing. I just hope the Met doesn't miss the opportunity to do a production of KING ROGER for him. Maestre made me smile from the second he peeped from behind the curtain on his cart. I can't imaging any other artist portraying this role better than he did. What a treat this performance was. Thank you Peter Gelb and the Met!

L'elisir d'Amore (The Elixir of Love

Composer: Gaetano Donizetti This comic opera is one of the best, and this production the best of all I've the several I have seen, making the operetta (comic opera) less cartoonish and more a story about real people and their feelings. The acting and singing are as good as it gets, and Donizetti always has a gift for toe-tapping melodies. In general the Met opera broadcasts in HD is a great way to become acquainted with the delights of this art form. Because the broadcasts are worldwide, the Met puts its best on display. That's not always the case at the Met in New York City. Plus you get to see back stage scenes of sets being put in place or remove, and interviews with the stars at intermission.

If you love opera, this is a must see. The cast is superlative and the HD makes it so enjoyable, I can't wait to see the next one. Way better than going to the MET, and so much cheaper. This is especially important when they show their "new" productions because most of them are terrible and ruin the feel of the opera. This production was fine, however.

What's not to like!! Anna Netrebko was absolutely marvelous. She and Mariusz Kwiecien were a great couple. Not only were their performances top notch, but they truly enjoyed working with each other. You can see it in their eyes. Two great professionals enjoying having fun doing want they do best. The rest of the cast was more than excellent. A terrific performance and worth every penny of admission. Would go to see this again.
