Composer: Gaetano Donizetti
This comic opera is one of the best, and this production the best of all I've the several I have seen, making the operetta (comic opera) less cartoonish and more a story about real people and their feelings. The acting and singing are as good as it gets, and Donizetti always has a gift for toe-tapping melodies.
In general the Met opera broadcasts in HD is a great way to become acquainted with the delights of this art form. Because the broadcasts are worldwide, the Met puts its best on display. That's not always the case at the Met in New York City. Plus you get to see back stage scenes of sets being put in place or remove, and interviews with the stars at intermission.

We absolutely loved everything about L'Elisir D'Amore. Thank you for continuing to show these productions in HD!

If you love opera, this is a must see. The cast is superlative and the HD makes it so enjoyable, I can't wait to see the next one. Way better than going to the MET, and so much cheaper. This is especially important when they show their "new" productions because most of them are terrible and ruin the feel of the opera. This production was fine, however.

This amazing opera manages to be hilarious and profoundly beautiful at the same time. It contains one gorgeous Donizetti melody after another, sung by a superb cast in a variety of combinations, and the plot zips along without a wasted moment. I would strongly recommend this totally accessible piece for anyone who thought they didn't like opera.
