Everything great, but....

La mise en scene was terrible. It made you concentrate on the music which as always superb. Whoever had thi idea should seek employment in the concret business.

Excellent Performance

Very simplistic set allowing you to focus on the performance. A must see!!! Only drawback was the theater; every HD Live performance we have attended in past two years has a "blackout" during transmission. Save a few dollars and see the encore performances as there aren't any blackouts

Wonderful as always. How can you say you don't like opera until you've seen at least one. '? It's not for everyone but the music- the voices-the experience are overwellming. Give it a try.

La Traviata

Unfortunately the sound at the movie theatre was faulty - I don't know if it was the actual theatre at Port Charlotte, Florida or if the telecom from the Met was the problem. Apart from the sound problem, I did not like the directing nor the set for this opera. Placing a courtesan in modern setting just didn't work. It needed the ambience of the time period in which it was originally written. Instead of a beautiful, highly sophisticated woman of the world Natalie Dessay seemed more like a low class party girl. Her method acting was over the top - and the first act looked more like she was in a prison than an elegant French salon. I was really disappointed. Matthew Polenzani was believable and stayed true to his character. As I left after the first act because of sound issues and dislike of the directing and sets it's hard for me to judge how the whole opera turned out.

Wonderful voices but the set was so stark, it was distracting!! VERY!! The silly floral robes that looked like they were made because you had extra fabric left over from the couch covers...........way below usual MET standards. As a matter of fact, I would think twice before seeing another production staged by "Willie".
