Another fantastic performance from the Met. Beautifully done with gorgeous voices and interesting staging along with a little bit different interpretation. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to see these productions in the theaters.

In my perception, the Metropolitan's contemporary staging of this well-known opera accomplished the stated goal, which was to distill it to its musical/dramatic essence by removing the settings, costumes, and periphery that identify it specifically with place and time. The drama itself was the focus, powerfully and clearly communicated by a cast of thoroughly experienced and talented singer/actors. For me, this presentation was far more impactful than any Traviata I have seen previously...

Since arriving home from seeing la Traviata i have been on the phone telling everyone i talked to that this performance is a MUST SEE. You don't need to even like opera to love this. Thank you so much for providing the opportunity to see a wonderful performance!!!

The broadcast itself was great, as always. I didn't especially appreciate the updated, "modern," production, as it did nothing in keeping with the story. WHO dies of consumption (TB) these days??? Forget it. But Natalie Dessay was terrific as Violetta--and must have been exhausted from the emotion (let alone the singing) of her performance!! Get to the encore if you can!!
