Once again, the Met scores a hit with a great cast in this Rossini comic opera.

disappointing !

Unlike all the other Met productions I have seen, la Cenerentola appears to have been made on a budget and the lack of investment of ideas, finesse and talent was painfully obvious. John Relya was the only exception to an otherwise mediocre medley of voices. Garanca sings beautifully but lacks a spark and Brownlee was able to produce melodious lines but had to muster all his concentration. The tempi overall were excessively slow and the conducting lacked verve. The sound quality at the theater took a plunge during the first act and the sound faded from left to right with most lower notes missing. A very disappointing experience.

If you love opera - you will love this!

I will admit that I didn't know what to expect - watching an opera at a movie theatre... but once the orchestra started playing the overture, I was mesmerized. Lawrence Brownlee and Elina Garanca were amazing...As a fellow singer, I am not blown away easily - but I was last Wednesday evening. Bravo! If you get a chance - go and watch. You will not be disappointed.
