I loved the music - the costumes and production were nearly perfect. But please, this is not a live production and watching set changes is SO unnecessary. I enjoy the interviews during the 3 intermissions, but the set changes alone totaled an hour! Why not cut that out. I left the 6-hour Parsifal production because of the same thing. Signed: Have mercy on us

3 LONG Intermissions for taped HD
by R. Davila
Signed: Could you please let us know the length of the set changes before we purchase the tickets; this is really frustrating!!!!!

This is a very traditional opera love story gone bad. It's four short acts with fascinating set changes shown during the intermissions. The leading roles are excellent-3 excllent men and one beautiful woman. Especially efective are the six women servants throughout the presentation who sing and move marvelously. More and more as I see these Met Opera HD presentations I learn about opera from the evening's hosts. I joined the Guild and now receive the monthly Oper News packed full of fascinating reviews and articles. Keep pthe good work. P.S. the hero and heroine as expected, die at the end but not a lengthy dragged out dyiing...stab her, stab him, curtaini! Wow!

I heard some of this "sleeper opera's" music a couple weeks ago on the Sat afternoon live from the MET radio broadcast. Listening to the music made me decide to see the HD presentation at my local theater. This smart decision resulted in my not only seeing the opera in total but to experience it in a wide screen theater in HD. Unfortunately, the theater's sound system seemed to negate some of the music's greatness at times. It was like hearing LOUD boom boom noises at some places.
The actual production, singers and costumes were totally SUPERB as well as the enlightening interviews during the intermission. Previews of the upcoming season helped me to know more about operas unfamiliar to me It also helps me to decide whether or not to include them in the next season for periodic NYC opera trips at the MET, local theater broadcasts and elsewhere.

Interesting production of little done work. Not particularly melodic, but good acting and sets.
