For the Opera lover, this is not to be missed. Superb.
However, try not to see it at Hollywood 20 in Sarasota. At the very end, as the most heart-wrenching moment in the opera, the video and then the audio failed, switching to a preview of some space movie, compete with ear-wrenching sounds and in-you-face visuals. a true disaster!

Fantastic!!!! The Met Opera series are wonderful. If you have never attended, you must get to one. You will not be disappointed. We use to attend the Chicago Operas but this option is by far superior. You have a front row seat plus you are able to be a part of their interviews with the principle singers. You also see the changing of the scenery sets. For the price of the tickets you certainly get a real bargain. As you can tell, we are sold on the Met Opera Series.

I enjoyed the production very much.Chaikovsky and Pushkin are the best combination you can imagine. Being originally from Russia, I could appreciate the opera from the point of view of language, acting, music and costumes.
I think that the acting was superb, the voices were excellent and costumes were very true to the time.
However the set design did not satisfy me completely, which is unusual for Metropolitan theater. The house in the first act was too bright, there was no such thing as big glass windows then, even though I understand that it gave the opportunity to see what is going on behind the walls... And in the third act there were too many columns, they obscure the view, and prevent you from enjoying the dancing in full beauty of it.
Overall, this was the best opera in HD I've seen in 5 years.

As with all the MetOpera HD live productions, this one was outstanding. Not only did the singers have magnificent voices, but they were fine actors. I also see opera live, but seeing it in a film allows one to see the emotions on the faces of the singers. The sound system allows even those of us who are hard of hearing to experience each note fully. I urge anyone--even those who think they don't like opera--to attend one of these HD productions.

This opera was romantic, exciting, beautifully sung and staged. It is fun to see the activity backstage and is the perfect way for an opera newbie to experience opera. There are subtitles so you don't need to know the story!
For the more experienced, it was a wonderful production.
