This is the second Met opera which I have seen in a theater, the other being last season's new production of Rigoletto.
The cast of this opera were simply superb. I have heard the music on cd's previously, but this was the first time I have seen the work. What a tear-jerker!
My only regret is that there was probably nobody in the audience below the age of 60. Young folks don't know what they are missing.

I admit that often I am hoping the opera will go a bit faster. Not this one. The story moved and the characters interacted and it was wonderful. The singing and the songs were great. When it comes out on DVD, assuming it will, I will buy this one.
So if you like opera then this is good.
If you love opera well this is a bit short at only four hours, but the music is great!

thought it was fair. am familiar with the opera and the music. Thought so much close up filming was distracting as i didn't care for the principal sopranos portrayal of Tatiana. But then acting is not the primary talent of opera stars. Somehow didn't get any of the feeling of being at the Met either.

Great! Almost better than being there.

Great performance, both voice and music. The woodwinds during Lenski's aria perfectly framed his voice and emotion. This is a must see when it is broadcast again.
