The sets are a great improvement over the previous version. Netrebko, Kwiecien, and Beczala are terrific together both vocally and dramatically. I also liked Elena Zaremba in the role of the mother and Larissa Diadkova as the nanny. Their opening duet was beautifully sung and set the proper tone for what was to come. Gergiev evoked more strength and deftness from the orchestra than a couple of years ago in the previous production. Everyone seemed in sync and the orchestra's sound was marvelous.

Wonderful Production

The singing, the acting, the pace of the evolution of the story and production were so exciting and well done, that my interest and enthusiasm never flagged, for even one minute. Despite some criticism of Peter Gelb's choice of this as the starting presentation of the season, I believe it was a brilliant choice, and the live audience thought so too with its standing ovation. Kudos to Mr. Gelb, as well, for bringing us The Met in HD!!!!

Glad I went, but...

This is 'opera' so the plot is irrelevant. Acting and staging quite good; nothing spectacular about the singing except it’s in Russian which I liked; music was lovely (it’s Tchaikovsky – what would you expect). If you're an opera novice, try it. Glad I went but would not see it again.

.............in her role. I truly try to see as many of her performances as I possibly can. She is my favorite female soprano. I loved this opera so much that I will recommend the encore performance to everyone that I know. It will live in my memory for years to come. Jerri

Loved this beautfiul performance, the wonderful singing and the intimacy of the experience. Its great to go to the opera for a first rate performance in the comfort of your blue jeans. The intermissions are too long and not necessary. One ten minute break would be enough The New Rochelle, New York, theater was beyond cold. It was freezing and not improved even after complaining to the manager. The surprise ending may be to choose a different theater next time.
