This was excellent, moving, beautiful as most of the Met Opera's HD offerings have been. I would like to see more young people attending. Eugene Onegin is a beautiful love story with exquisite music which should appeal to all ages.

Eugene Onegin - Opera

For the first time I attended the Met Live HD and watched the first program Eugene Onegin. I enjoyed it very much HOWEVER, there were technical difficulties. The picture definition was wonderful but the subtitles did not fit on the screen at the bottom. You could only see the top 1/3 of the letters! Everyone there complained and the theater staff said they were trying for a fix but that the satellite feed was not something they could adjust. They were working with, I assume, the tech folks at the Met for a fix. I have tickets to most of the other opera presentations this year and will be very disappointed if, by the next presentation, this technical difficulty is not remedied. Assuming it will be, I recommend this series of live broadcasts to anyone with any interest in opera. You cannot beat it for $22.00!

Eugene Onegin by P. I. Tchaikovsky

This is Tchaikovsky's most beautiful and better known opera. The music is gorgeous and the principals were outstanding, particularly Ana Netrebko as Tatyana and P. Beczala as Lenski. I also liked the title role, although I still long for Horostovski in that role. Tatyana's letter aria was exquisite, I thought, as was Lenski's famous aria, the latter probably the most famous in the entire opera. I liked the production in general, and one cannot ask for a more beautiful and technically perfect voice than Ana Netrebko's. Like Renee Fleming's and Renata Tebaldi's, a voice like Netrebko's comes around once or twice - ok, let's say as much as three times- in a hundred years.

I love Pushkin and Tchaikovsky, so it is a great hit for me to start with. Tatiyana and Lensky were fantastic. But the theater was overflown with people, so when we came a few minutes late, the only seats available were on 1st row on the sides. and there were diagonal lines coming during the whole movie. Not sure it is normal. Also there were hardly any viewers below 50, which really surprised me - is intelligentsia is dying off in US? :-(

This is an absolutely incredible production. The singing is stunning. Anna Netrebko is a most marvelous soprano with every note she sings being beautiful and she is also a fine actress. Onegin and Lenski are equally wonderful. The sets are very effective and the principal arias moving in emotion beyond belief.
