The production was beautiful! Sets, costumes and projections really intensified the story. And of course, the music was superb. This music is obviously in the heart and soul of Anna Netrebko and Valery Gergiev, and their passion for it came through. Tchaikovsky's score is so beautiful and romantic! The two leading men (tenor and baritone) both have Russian as their second language, and their proficiency in the language made their roles more realistic. I have seen a number of productions of Eugene Onegin, and this one has to be number one. If you are an opera lover, GO!!!

the opera was beautifully staged with fantastic voices and acting. Netrebko was especially outstanding changing from the character of a shy erratic lovelorn teenager at the beginning of the opera to a mature self-assured woman at the end.
However, our enjoyment severely affected by being across the hall from IMAX showing Gravity in 3D and all the special sound effects penetrated our theater. Whether the overture and musical interludes, the loud bass vibrations from theaters next door (showing Riddick and Gravity) as well as the IMAX theater severely tested our concentration and enjoyment.

Opera about a young girl and her love for a man
Written October 21, 2013
This is Tchaikovsky's most beautiful and better known opera. The music is gorgeous and the principals were outstanding, particularly Ana Netrebko as Tatyana and P. Beczala as Lenski. I also liked the title role, although I still long for Horostovski in that role. Tatyana's letter aria was exquisite, I thought, as was Lenski's famous aria, the latter probably the most famous in the entire opera. I liked the production in general, and one cannot ask for a more beautiful and technically perfect voice than Ana Netrebko's. Like Renee Fleming's and Renata Tebaldi's, a voice like Netrebko's comes around once or twice - ok, let's say as much as three times- in a hundred years.

I love Pushkin and Tchaikovsky,
so it is a great hit for me to start with.
Tatiyana and Lensky were fantastic.
But the theater was overflown with people,
so when we came a few minutes late, the only
seats available were on 1st row on the sides.
and there were diagonal lines coming during the whole movie.
Not sure it is normal.
Also there were hardly any viewers below 50,
which really surprised me - is intelligentsia is dying off in US? :-(
