Don Giovanni

Good technique among the performers. Great voices and acting ability. The staging should be reviewed,it was entirely too dark.I recognize there is a dark element to the story and perhaps the reason but it was difficult to see the actors. At the HD showing we had the benefit of large sized images. I wonder how the audience in the opera hall could make out the performers. Or was the darkness a result of the persons in charge of the image transmission ?

This show has been playing for over 200 years so no comment on its quality is needed. This Met Opera production was superb in all respects: singing, stage, conducting, direction.

Everyone was concerned about Kweichen's back surgery... not a problem! His physical presence, musical delivery and mastery of his "calling card" role were extraordinary. What is even more amazing is that this show is not Giovanni's alone - he's offstage a lot of the time and the various other characters have their share of arias, duets, and sextets that deserve (and got) standing ovations each time. It is SO TERRIFIC that the Met is doing these Live in HD performances... this one was top notch and will be viewed by so many for so long!

Don Giovanni is one of the best operas written, and this production is excellent. The cast is outstanding, the direction adds dimension and humor to what could be a much darker story. Even if you're "not into opera" this is very enjoyable, melodic, Mozart at his best. My only negative is that the cameras spent too much time close up on the singers. I would like to see more long shots mixed in, see more of the set and background action.

What a great afternoon. Fabulous opera. Wonderful music (well, it is Mozart!!), a fun and accessible story. An anti-hero so naughty (and sexy) that you have to love him. Good acting. I was only sorry when it ended.
