Really loved it, though thought the first act was stronger than the second. First act finale aria was stupendous.

What music I heard, inbetween the singing, I found stirring and very fitting to the terrorfying story of the making of the atomic bomb. But the lyrics song in english were difficult for me to appreciate--not very pleasing to the ear (maybe intentional, noting the subject matter?!). Only twice was I moved, again apart from the music, once in the very emotional song "Batter My Heart" and at the end of the opera when there is a voice-over of a woman pleading in Japanese for water for her thirsty child.

Good Libretto. NIce production. Horrible music. Perpetual non-melodic drone. Could have used an American mother's voice from Pearl Harbor bombing at the beginning to counterbalance Japanese mother's voice at the end. Thank you.

A stunning modern opera with cumulative power and affect. I felt the libretto was slow in spots, and the staging could have had more dramatic impact. But it was a tremendous experience and very moving. And I had not seen any modern opera before, so this was a real departure from my previous opera experience.

A big bomb dropped on the Met. The singer of Robert Oppenheimer is outstanding. Finerty? Ken Geist, NYC
