One Fine Afternoon!

The live in HDTV broadcast of this popular, long time favorite opera was stunning! The sets, costumes, music are all breathtaking and the cast was beyond excellent. As a long time subscriber to the Met, I must say I have never enjoyed opera as much as with this new medium. It is so exciting to be up close and personal with the singers and to actually see their facial expressions as well as hear them. The camera work is outstanding; the audience gets to see every detail of the work being performed. The intermission, back stage features add immeasurably to the total enjoyment!

MET HD LIVE Der Rosenkavalier

This being my favorite opera,so profound and comic with a score that's paradise,I was ready to enjoy this from the beginning, only to find this cast and production far surpassing expectations. The intermission features were also excellent as usual, though one wished there were more of them and a bit less of promo for what's next, which we've been given in the "screen saver" time at the beginning and could be done with a 'subtitle" crawl under the set construction segments (which are fascinating in themselves).

intermission interviews by Placido were excellent . costumes and staging were outstanding. as was the singing. The opera is about an hour too long however.
