Fabulous production- singing, acting, sets and lighting. Difficult music - not for those who are looking for Opera's Greatest Hits.

This is a tough opera to simply rate. Suffice it to say if one likes opera then he/she should go see this production. Huge cast, but Rene Pape as Boris especially was superb. His final monologue in the third act particular moved me. I think conductor, Valerie Gergiev, expecially deserves kudos because more than any other person he is responsible for making Russian opera known to the world at large. It is a rich treasure and deserving of the attention it has received in recent years in the United States. This Met production is a worthy entree.

For those of you who are "opera nuts", don't miss this all Russian new Metropolitan Opera production of Boris Godunov. It is superbly staged, directed and sung by the amazing Rene Papa in the title role. Don't let the length deter you as there are two generous intermissions. The encore is on November 10th. These extraordinary HD productions beamed right from the Met stage have such an advantage over "being there". All seats are quite inexpensive, one always has a great view. No particular travel problems; easy parking, and the added delight of back stage interviews with members of the cast, the conductor, the director, the costume department, the stage hands. Interviews are limitless. How can you not get tickets now for Donizetti's Don Pasquale, November 13th. Hurry as it will be a sell out production. One added note. The famed Russian conductor, Valery Gergiev, is on the podium for Boris. The orchestra under his baton is not to be believed.
