Ukrainean Liudmyla Monastyrska sings the part of Aida. She has amazing power and vocal control and poignancy. The Met sets for Aida are so very impressive. I also enjoyed the videos showing what happens backstage during the intermissions and seeing both close-ups and aerial views, something I wouldn't see if I were actually at the Met.

This was a spectacular presentation of this Verdi opera. The tenor and sopranos were absolutely beautiful, especially Liudmyla Monastryska in her role of Aida. Roberto Alagna's third act performance was just gorgeous.
The staging was amazing . The large choruses especially the triumphant march were beautiful. Renee Fleming's commentary was interesting. A few people in the theatre complained about the long intermissions but I didn't see this as a problem - just an opportunity to stand up and stretch.
I did have one major complaint, however. Throughout the entire performance of Aida you could hear the booming sound track from the adjacent movie. This was annoying !
For anyone who loves opera, I would highly recommend attending these taped performances. They are filmed live at the Met and presented on the big screen in HD. It's the next best thing to attending the Met.

Anyone who loves this Verdi Opera would thoroughly enjoy this MetOpera. The Ukranian lead singing the role of Aida was spectacular.

The opera itself was great. However, the experience was marred by a bunch of interviews asking stupid superficial questions before and during the performance. I understand that they needed to do something during intermissions BUT they ran the interviews and then STILL ran the intermissions. I will not see one of these again as long as they have these interviews. It is very annoying. Just do in the intermission set up and cut out the interviews

Since it's a re-run and not a live performance, I'd suggest editing the intermissions to make the film shorter.
