incredible mish-mosh

A big disappointment. There was essentially no point at all to this movie. None. Zip - nada. And I pride myself in always being able to get the subtle details of a movie. This was just a bunch of scenes with no real purpose. The acting was a disappointment as well - it could have been great if it had had a purpose - but there was none to be had. After all the hype - its just a no meaning artsie fartsie movie (and I usually like them).

Mixed bag. Mostly awesome, but the low points are low. A handful of very strange scenes. If for no other reason, see it to watch Phoenix. Incredible character.

The Master

This movie started out bleakly and got worse. After enduring almost 1 hour, we walked out. When we looked behind us, there were only 3 people who were staying. Don't waste your time.

Paul Thomas Anderson IS the Master

It's great to see Anderson back with Phillip Seymour Hoffman in another masterpiece of character and authentic time and place film making. Just like There Will Be Blood, The Master gets under your skin to tell you a piece of the American myth in a more truthful way than anyone has done before.

Celebration of Self-Loathing

Had great expectations, based on the buzz, but found the film largely unlikable. There was not a single character in the film worth empathy or sympathy -- perhaps Anderson's intent. The whole film was a long, drawn out plodding, disjointed, unapologetic celebration of self-loathing. Beautiful cinematography. Must-see for Hoffman and Phoenix fans, but others should be prepared to be offended by the characters and to NOT be entertained.
