Not only is THE MALTESE FALCON one of greatest American movies to come out of the Hollywood studio system in the 1940s, but it is still a text-book example of how to tell an exciting detective tale at a lightning fast pace with great style and energy. Of course Bogart is the definitive Sam Spade, but look at all the other "definitives that came out of this wonderful film: Peter Lorre as the quintessential slimy weasel, Sydney Greenstreet as the ultimate eloquent big boss daddy with style and of course wonderfully pathological Mary Astor! Dynamic, funny, and like it's closing line sums up,"it's the stuff that dreams are made of"... If you can, see it with an audience who appreciates great black & white masterpieces!! If not the 2 disc DVD edition is marvelous and very informative!!

Humphrey Bogart was amazing to say the least. He could turn the worst film ever into one of the best with his mere presence. Not to say this was bad, but it was in his power. This movie is great. The pace is fantastic and the dialogue is wonderful. A must see film for everyone. Don't look at the fact its black and white. Just look at the fact that it is a classic film.
