The Meh Ranger

Finally saw The Lone Ranger on an airplane trip. Wasn't terrible but not very good. An odd mix of cardboard characters, impossible action scenes, the occasional attempt to be serious and meaningful along with some sly humor. Used a narrative style that was clunky and may have been added to (try to) hide the lapses in the plot. Target audience probably 10-year old boys. It didn't help that English was coming out of the left headphone and Spanish the right, but I don't think it made much difference either.

Lone Ranger is great fun, but title is misleading

The title "Lone Ranger" is misleading -- it should be titled "Tonto." If you're a Johnny Depp fan (and who isn't?), this is a must-see movie. Armie Hammer (of "2081") certainly does a fine job as the Lone Ranger, but it's really more of a supporting role. Depp is the main man throughout (and that's not a bad thing). Don't let the 149-minute run-time put you off. There's plenty of action to keep things moving along, and the time passes faster than you might think. Excitement, adventure, humor, great scenery and special effects -- and the inimitable Johnny Depp doing what he does best. What more could you ask for in a summer movie?

Our Family - Three Generations Loved It !!

Two grandparents, daughter and two teenage granddaughters all LOVED it. Great plot, perfectly timed and performed with now classic Johnny Depp style humor delivery, great plot (my wife and I watched this on TV as a kid every weekend), and as ridiculous as some of the chase scenes could be ( it is a fictional hero movie people !!) the action train scenes were quite entertaining. You cannot go into this movie looking for some reality concept - this is fiction, cartoon, adult/children hero fantasy at its best.

nothing great - disappointing in many ways - too much going on and some parts very unrealistic and not as funny as it was supposed to be Do not be prepared to love it - it's only midly entertaining - bummer because I LOVE Johnny Depp - anyone could pass on this movie and not miss anything.....

The Lone Ranger

I had high expectations when I went to see the Lone Ranger last night. But while the movie was not bad, it was not great either. The last 20 minutes are the best in the whole movie. The story seemed realy disjointed. It's told to a young boy by an elderly Tonto who is now in a carnival side-show. Some parts of the movie don't flow well and some things aren't explained well. For example, the Lone Ranger is a lawyer fresh out of law school from back East. Yet he rides Silver like a trained stuntman. At least they did get the reason of how the name Lone Ranger came about. Johnny Depp seems to be playing Tonto like Jack Sparrow. His walk is the same and his mannerisms are the same. I'd give it an 8 out of 10, mainly because of the last 20 minutes being heep fun. Good for the whole family.
