Terrific Movie! Funny, Touching & Thrilling

I read a few reviews from Critics and decided to go see The Lone Ranger anyway. This was a great decision... this film didn't disappoint me. Every part was perfectly cast. Armie Hammer impressed me by managing NOT to be overshadowed by Johnny Depp. His Lone Ranger's journey from idealist to realist without losing his good hearted optimism was one of the best things about the movie. And Johnny Depp's Tonto was dignified, funny and tragic. Seeing these two men slowly become friends and partners is what gives this movie so much heart. I thought the framing device (Tonto telling the story to the kid in 1933) was brilliant. The music was perfect... my dad had recordings of the Lone Ranger radio serials from his childhood in the 1930s and I grew up listening to those with him. In this film, when the Lone Ranger gallops off on Silver to the William Tell Overture, it brought tears to my eyes.

This life long Lone Ranger fan enjoyed this film tremendously. I didn't know who Army Hammer was, but I liked him in this film. Depp as always was great. Only negative is that it is a bit young.

Ranger Fans will be Pleased, Depp Delivers

I'm confused by the critics reviews. Apparently they saw a different movie. The Lone Ranger movie is the story of how and why the Ranger and Tonto started their famous partnership, and what motivates each character. I felt the storyline did justice to the original series, capturing the essence of the tv show. Yes Tonto had a bigger part in the movie, but it did not take away from the part of the Lone Ranger. If Tonto (Depp) hadn't had a lot to say, I'm sure fans would have been disappointed. There was quite a bit of gun violence in the movie, but it is a western folks! There were no huge special effects that we usually see these days, which was fine with me; we don't need everything blowing up every 10 minutes. This was not a movie for small kids; I believe it was aimed at those of us (big kids) who watched the tv series as children. Not sure if there's enough here to make a "franchise" out of this, but I would pay to see a sequel. Love to see more Depp, more "Silver" :)

take a hero and give it a modernized slant and you have a thoroughly entertaining action adventure western, that keeps you captivated and chuckling in 2.5 hours of pure entertainment. I cannot wait for the sequel. Johnnioe Depp is a brilliant tonto and Armie Hammer is great as the initially bumbling foil ranger. Wow! I really enjoyed it and did not want it to end. #d would have been nice!

Great Action Film!

Reviews were so poor, we almost didn't go to see this film - would have been a big mistake! We thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. What great entertainment! Johnny Depp was his usual 'outstanding' as Tonto. It had enough of the old TV series blended with a new storyline. We all walked out saying we would see it again when it was available on VOD at home. Really took you back to the way things were when you were a kid watching TV in the 60's. Great film - don't listen to the critics - go see it for yourself!
