If you're looking for a movie go see something else. If you're looking for a FILM see this one. Without a doubt this film will be one of the best you'll see all year. The plot is solid and fascinating and the characters are, for the most part, rich. There isn't a whole lot of character development aside from the main character but the plot twists more than make up for this short fall. An absolutely excellent film over all.

Character development of one without a home life through communist government assignment spying on others. Great movie! Moving and profoundly stirring & thought provoking in many ways.

Undoubtedly the best film I've seen in five years -- it's smart, moving, artful, enlightening and wholly electrifying. The perfect antidote to conventionally brainless summer movies!

A very human take on the whole idea of spying on citizens. Fascinating story, well written, shot and acted.

"Lives of Others" - We loved it, but some might not...

If the thought of a high-IQ, low-action foreign film in subtitles turns you off, then this movie isn't for you. We loved it, however. Good story, good characters, good inner conflicts, interesting setting (East Berlin in the last few years of the communist regime). It served as an excellent reminder of the banal brutality of the totalitarian regimes that ruled in the name of socialism but abused power as much as in any system without checks and balances.
