I went to an advance screening of this film at the California Extreme event in San Jose and it is very interesting. This talks about how one guy wanted to break a world record set by Billy Mitchell. This guy has to go through obsticles to try to break the record. Though I can't give you any furthur details than that, film was awsome. You also see other legend world record holders for other games be on hand here from the early 1980s. There are some anxious moments in the film and some fallouts but, overall a great film.

This movie is a perfect example of why I love independent films. Real people, being themselves. You would not buy these characters as believeable if this were a scripted movie, because these people are so over the top in real life. There are tons of laughs in this movie, largely based on the fact that the lead players are such weenies. Billy Mitchell clearly thinks he is Chuck Norris. Brilliantly edited too.

The battle between rival champions for the Donkey Kong arcade game top score is the basis of the story here, but even those unfamiliar with video games will find the human dynamics here fascinating. One of the best films I've seen this year.

There's no possible way Hollywood could make anything this good, this unbelievably compelling, this boldly manipulative. Here's a movie that literally has the audience bursting into spontaneous applause at its climax -- a documentary that is more riveting, more pure fun, than any "mainstream" movie I've seen in months. "The King of Kong" isn't just a rare gem, it's an entertaining, strangely thought-provoking and indescribably fun time at the movies.
