We had high hopes and they were not met---be forewarned, the preview trailers show almost all the best parts of the movie, except for the last 10 minutes. Jim Carrey's character is atrocious and not at all funny. The teenagers in front of us seemed to really enjoy Carrey's ridiculous stunts, when they weren't mauling each other. Olivia Wilde is quite likable. What happened to Gandolfini---still channeling Tony Soprano, but just going through the motions?
You're not missing anything. If you feel the need to see it, wait for it to be on video--that will happen very quickly, as it's not going to be in the theaters for long, nor will it be one that gets any repeat viewers.

I thought this might be funny – liking Steve Carell. This movie is so stupid as to be beyond The characters are unbelievable, the acting is bad, the story makes no sense, it was bad.
It is hard to say anything positive about this movie. Avoid it at all costs. I don't know what they were thinking – it looks like they weren't thinking.
Terrible, terrible, terrible

This movie was distasteful and hard to watch. A lot of gruesome tricks that aren't related to magic in any way. Just bad. I want my money back.

I'm not a Steve Carell fan, and this movie did nothing to make me feel otherwise. It was a tired and depressing story, and that led to an implausible ending. Jim Carrey and Olivia Wilde (formerly in the House series) had decent performances, but they couldn't make up for a bad plot and two unconvincing lead actors (Carell and Buscemi). Save your money for a movie that instead will star Carrey and Wilde.
