I would like to start by stating that I have only read 2/3 rds of the book. This movie was at best a fun frolicking piece of visual candy, and at worst Junk. The story was told without the narration function, which made the book memorable. You saw into the mind of Katniss. It gave you perspective and attachment to the character. This would have been an excellent story device to use in the beginning to explain the history, rather than printed words on the screen. Key story points occurred without little explanation. And the characters were so two dimensional, I felt nothing when they died. The acting was at best flat from Lawrence and Hutcherson, who clearly had no insight into the characters they portrayed. Debra Zane's casting was inept, the only brilliant piece of casting was Kravits in his role as Cinna. I wish Suzanne Collins who wrote a beautiful and sometimes sublime series had demanded more of Lionsgate to make a better movie. In short Save Your Money, wait for video

The Hunger Games

In short, The Hunger Games was very good, I enjoyed it, but not as good as the book. Pros: Stanley Tucci was superb as Caesar. The other actors were quite good as well. It also followed the story line well, but I'm unclear how good or clear the movie will be to those who haven't read the book. A number of characters and relationships had to be left out. Loved the portrayal of the people and indulgences of the Capitol. Violence was real, but not gratuitous. Wouldn't let under 13-year-olds watch it, however. Cons: The extremely shaky, unfocused camera work during the District 12 portion of the file (first 15 minutes). It made me dizzy. Extreme close-ups. Lots of views of folks' nose pores. Not as emotionally engaging as the book. All that being said - a great ride and I can't wait for the next movie!

Great Movie! Stuck to the book, Did not see any really big differences from the book - which I was really happy to see. Hate when the movie is totally opposite of the book. The Crowd was into the movie making that much more enjoyable. They kept the grotesque killing versions from the book out - guess that kept it PG-13. My 6 year old son loved it. So I know a lot of people worry about not taking thier kids but I thought it was okay for my kid. See it at the IMAX - it makes it even better. Would tell anyone they must go see it. Can't wait for the sequel!

Flawless... the book literally comes to life!

I am a significant fan of The Hunger Games trilogy and have read each book at least twice. I was in awe when I went to the midnight showing... the book literally came to life on screen. I love this movie and will likely see it again on the big screen. It is a must see.
