The Hunger Games

Overall, the movie was decent. I cried when little Rue died. However, with that said, I think the character development was very poorly done. The movie did very well illustrate the relationships between Katniss and Gale; Katniss and Prim; Katniss and Peeta; Katniss and Haymitch; or Katniss and Rue. If I had not read the book and new about these relationships between characters, I would not have understood them in the movie at all. What was explained as a week in the book was less than a day in the movie. On a better note, the fighting and deaths of the children were tastefully done. They audience knew what was going to happen to them, but did not have to watch it play out.

Many going were fans of the book. I haven't had the chance to read it, and I have to say I want to, now. Great movie. Dark, but not gratuitous with it. Great acting and an amazing plot. I would love to see more in this series.

If you didn't read the book, then you will love this movie. However, if you read the book and loved it as much as I did, you will still like the movie, but probably just not as much as the book. They could have made the movie a little longer in order keep in some of the great parts of the book that were cut out, and this would have made the film even richer, but all in all, still a great film. The casting of the main characters was excellent and I'm looking forward to the next two!

Right on and faithful with the book!

We saw this at the midnight premier in IMAX. The movie was spectacular... fast-paced right to the end. The actors brought you right into their world, the cinematography was amazing! Camera usage made you feel like you were right their watching news coverage of a live event! Special effects usage was tasteful and blended well with the rest. This is a must see. For the parent that is leary, there are some scenes of violence, even to the point that it might be labeled graphic, i.e. a kids neck broken, which was shot from a distance and not close up, and Rue pulling a spear from her stomach. There are depictions of blood, though. For those of a faith background, The story is completely devoid of any mention of faith in the books. Yet there is one epithet where Katniss exclaims "oh my God." I do not remember any cussing. All-in-all a great movie, although a little violent. Go see it!

It definitely lived up to the book. There were some key plot points that were omitted but even if you have not read the book, you can still follow along. It was amazing!
