The Hunger Games Movie Guide

As if You Needed Them, Here Are 5 Reasons to See 'Catching Fire'

A few years ago, you may recall a little-known movie series known as The Twilight Saga. Based off a series of books, this movies delighted fans with glittery vampires, pale-white skin and ripped male bodies. Each year, as the next installment was released, more and more women flocked to the theater as soon as it was released… some lining up early in the morning just to ensure a proper seat to scope out Edward and Jacob.

Five years after the first movie, I still have yet to open one Twilight book or watch any of the movies. Who has the time (or inclination) to go to midnight movie showings and rub shoulders with a bunch of love-crazed teenagers?

Enter The Hunger Games. The trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins debuted on the big screen just last year. Upon its premiere, many categorized it “The next Twilight” and brushed off the buzz surrounding the film and series.

I stayed up way too late reading the first book and finished in a record two-and-a-half hours. Six days after The Hunger Games movie opened and less than 12 hours after finishing the first book, the late-night showing lived up to my expectations. If finishing the second and last book in two days is any indication, I’d say I became swept away in the craze.

Fast-forward to the weeks leading up to the November 22 premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and I’m now firmly in the camp of the midnight moviegoers. We’re already lining up babysitters, scoping out the theater that we’d love to lounge in and preparing to buy our tickets.

Don’t believe the hype? Here’s the top five reasons why you should drop everything to be at the theater the day Catching Fire premieres:

1. Team Peeta vs. Team Gale

You’re welcome.

2. It restores faith in humanity

Before you say anything… yes, it’s a movie, but seeing people in dire situations choosing to do the right thing gives you a glimpse of hope that maybe, just maybe, that could happen more in real life.

3. Woody Harrelson

He’s come a long way from Cheers. By now he has been transformed into a likable drunk in the series. With past experience as a winning tribute, Woody as Haymitch inspires Peeta and Katniss, annoys those around him, and gives a stunning performance as a character you wish you didn’t have to like. But you do.

4. The book-to-movie re-creation has been done surprisingly well

Movie portrayals of books don't always live up to what you envisioned while reading. With the first book so fresh in mind, seeing that come to life just one day later exceeded expectations. With just a few minor details left out, the film captured the essence of The Hunger Games, and Catching Fire is sure to do the same.

5. Because in real life, I want Jennifer Lawrence to like me…

And be my BFF. With her long, flowing mane and the love triangle she has with Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss hits all the right notes. She carries herself beautifully both on-screen and off.

Think these reasons aren’t enough? See for yourself why Catching Fire is the movie to watch this November.
