Up until now, the Catching Fire casting announcements have pretty much featured amateur actors that few people had heard of. One of the key roles that was still open was Beetee, the District 3 electronics expert who earns the nickname Volts and figures prominently in the second book.
Critically acclaimed actor Jeffrey Wright has snagged that role and while the name might not immediately jump out at you, his face is certainly one that you have seen before, most recently in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Ides of March and Source Code. He also starred as Felix Leiter in the last James Bond film Quantum of Solace and portrayed Muddy Waters in Cadillac Records.
Beetee becomes one of the participants in the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell, where past victors of Hunger Games compete for a second time. Beetee, along with Wiress (to be played by Amanda Plummer, best known as Honey Bunny from Pulp Fiction) are called upon by Haymitch to protect Katniss and Peeta during the Quell. As a result, they form a close bond with each other.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters november 22, 2013 and will be followed a two-part Mockingjay finale on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.
Hunger Games fans, what do you think of this latest casting addition? Does Wright look like he can pull off the Beetee role or would you have preferred someone else?3
