Lynn Cohen Cast As Mags in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

Things have been pretty quiet on the Catching Fire front since the casting of Sam Claflin in the much-hyped role of Finnick Odair. But there's a Quarter Quell approaching and several Hunger Games victors left to be cast.

Amanda Plummer has already been cast as District 3 champion Wiress while Jena Malone signed on to play District 7 champion Johanna Mason. And then there's Claflin who won the part of District 4 champ Odair.

Now 80-year-old actress Lynn Cohen has won the part of Mags,  a former Hunger Games victor from District 4. Mags' specialty is making fishhooks out of anything (her District's specialty is fishing) and Katniss and Peeta quickly form a bond with her.

Here's the official release from Lionsgate:

Lionsgate and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Lynn Cohen has been cast in the role of Mags in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. A former mentor to Finnick Odair, Mags is an eighty year old Hunger Games victor from District 4.

Known to New York theater audiences for decades of memorable roles, Cohen has also appeared in critically acclaimed films such as Steven Spielberg’s Munich and Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, NY, as well as commercial fare such as Sex and The City and its sequel. She can next be seen in They Came Together, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

There are still several key roles left to fill. Tony Shalhoub has long been rumored for the role of Beetee. Other roles still open include Blight, the District 7 tribute for the 75th Hunger Games, Bonnie from District 8, Brutus from District 2, Cashmere from District 1 and one-handed Chaff from District 11.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arrives in theaters November 22, 2013.

Good choice for Mags! All the other casting choices for the movie haven't really wow'ed me, but I'm sure they'll all do a fine job.

Their best addition was definitely Philip Seymour Hoffman for Plutarch Heavensbee. I don't exactly remember Jena Malone from "Sucker Punch" (a movie I'm glad to forget) and Sam Claffin did okay with "On Stranger Tides" so maybe the new additions will live up to expectations.
