New 'Hunger Games' Trailer Prems Monday, Film Must Make At Least $100 Million to Get Sequels

With The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 arriving in theaters next Friday, November 18th, the folks over at Lionsgate have wisely decided to throw down some more Hunger Games promo during the same week. There's no doubt they want -- and need -- this Hunger Games movie to put up big numbers at the box office, and a lot of eyes will be tuned in for this second trailer when it debuts this Monday, November 14th on Good Morning America. Lionsgate is rolling out the red carpet for this thing, bringing in Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) to host the trailer debut, which will also be shown on GMA's jumbotron in Times Square. We expect the online premiere to be a big deal too, and as we've done in the past Movies.com will round up reactions from all the major Hunger Games fansites immediately after it hits.

And Lionsgate needs this one to hit hard. The first trailer -- a 60-second teaser which showed Jennifer Lawrence running through the woods shooting arrows -- wasn't very well-received by the fan community, and with a monster like Breaking Dawn hitting theaters that same week, this new Hunger Games trailer will have to show more signs of it actually being the "event movie" Lionsgate says it is.

Bloomberg ran a recent profile on the studio's two head executives, Jon Feltheimer and Michael Burns, who claim that after misfires like Conan the Barbarian (which they hoped would be a trilogy), Warrior and Abduction, the studio needs Hunger Games to become the blockbuster it's destined to be, especially with 16 million copies of the novel sold around the world. Feltheimer says that The Hunger Games will have to earn at least $100 million in order to warrant them making the franchise's planned 3-4 films, adding "I'm not too concerned we won't get to that kind of number."

Well, the first road to that number begins with the film's marketing -- and so, yeah, you could say there's a lot riding on Monday's trailer debut. We look forward to checking it out. You?

This movie will easily make 100 mil. And if anyone doubts that they have no idea what they're saying. This is one of the best series I've ever read, and I read a LOT.

I'm positive that Hunger Games will get more than 100 million. It's an amazing trilogy and 10x better and more popular (now) than the Twilight saga (books). I'm a very picky reader when it comes to books nowadays but the Hunger Games Trilogy is an amazing read. The first book was just epic!

Oh I read the books and I loved them! I am so excited to see if the movie(movies) really capture the same excitement. A lot of movies are not as good as the books. I hope that this is not one of them.

Hunger Games is a very sad depressing story..with another love Triangle plot..and do not try to sell me this story as exiting. The Plot is KIDS KILLING KIDS....you can twist it as you like to make it to be something else.......these children are trained to hunt and compete...I do not see whats so attractive about that....Jen looks way to "fed" to be in district 12..they should have used the girl from Dragon Tattoo...

@Gabriele Borgo- Nobody is trying to make it sound like something different. We all know it's about kids killing kids, and nobody said it was an attractive story, reality isn't attractive and the whole plot of the trilogy is realistic and could happen in the future. Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing actress, just watch Winter's Bone. As much as I love the girl who will be playing the girl with the dragon tattoo, no offense to her but she isn't as gorgeous as Jennifer and Katniss is supposed to be gorgeous. And I think it's safe to say that it's 40x more entertaining and cooler than that piece of crap Twilight saga.

I am so happy that my "almost-12" granddaughter figured out that Bella was an idiotic girl and way too dependent on Edward - so she jumped at the "Hunger Games" as a new series and was thrilled with the books - as I was! I hope there will be sequels; as the story got better as it went on!
