I was really rooting for this movie as I really enjoyed the book. I was hoping the author would write more because the book was left open ended. I really hope this movie does not squash that - I think it might sadly.
I went with a friend who had not read the book yet so it was interesting to get her take and she enjoyed the movie. There were pockets of teens that would squeal with laughter in some points and I found myself unfortunately chuckling at moments that there shouldn't be a chuckle.
There were some enjoyable relationships that understandably had to be removed from the book's story line to adapt it to the movie but I was disappointed that the relationship between Wanda & Ian was not believable.
There were quite a few leaps that were in the movie that were not very believable, especially for those who did not read the book. I did like the last 40 mins of the movie though and do hope SM will write another in this series. Sadly, this movie won't be around long.

I loved the movie. I read the book a few years ago and was wondering how they would do the internal voices as most of the book was in Melanie/Wanda's thought conversations and memory revealing. I went with 3 people that did not read it first and one that did. Seems you probably enjoy it more if you read the book because you understand the story better, but the 3 that did not read it enjoyed it too. My son just didn't like that there wasn't a lot of action, he's 12 :) and wanted to see GI Joe.
Overall an entertaining break from the everyday movie. I have been recommending it to my friends! I would say GO

I absolutely loved this movie!!!! I wanted to see it the morning after seeing it the night before! there is one scene that i think didn't need to be in there, but even with that scene, the movie was amazing!! A Must See! :)

For most people, stifling laughter will be hard while watching this film. It's not a comedy though. Due to a most unique screenplay which uses voice over with actual dialog simultaneously while using the same character, frankly the effect is just plain comical in some places. So much so in fact that I witnessed at least three people leave the theater because they just couldn't stop laughing. I'll give the screenwriter credit for experimentation, that's for sure. The talent can only do what's on the page, so the end result really isn't their fault. Meyers has a rich imagination but the adaptation of this book is not deep or mildly enticing in this format. All-in-all this isn't a terrible movie, just not one that will appeal first, to any male audience (including the gay males) and second, to anyone whose funny bone is easily activated by debatably cheesy dialog over action over voice over dialog....on and on and on. See it though if for no other reason than its unique awfulness.
