The movie followed the book pretty closely, with a few minor detail changes. Overall I thought it was good! The action scenes were exciting and the actors did a great job portraying the qualities of the characters. We loved it!

This adaption of the book was okay. They rushed so much of the story and never really developed any relationship with the characters for the viewer who hasn't read the book.

This movie is a dark, allegorical (Si-fi-based) depiction of friendly-fascism and schizophrenia.
The fim itself is rooted in the tradition of body-invasion movies of the 1950s, in this regard (CF. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (Circa 1956))...In the movie, the earth (And Humanity) has been quietly invaded by extra-terrestrials who occupy human- bodies. The sci-fi allegory serves a two-fold explanatory purpose by seeking to debunk the darker side of “friendly-fascism”; as well as certain types of neurological disorders, such as acute schizophrenia (CF. The persona or role of Melanie/Wanderer within the "Host” movie). The first half hour of the movies involves a stark, depiction of what it is to be a schizophrenic without adequate medication (Melanie is fighting with the alien-Wanderer over the control of her body, in this regard; or to recast the above, Melanie is suffering from a neurological imbalance that manifests itself with auditory hallucinations).

The problem with most movies adapted from books is that the movie can't possible include as much detail as the book. Therefore, those who read the book first are always sorely disappointed come movie time. I didn't read the book first, so I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. This story doesn't provide any explanations about how the aliens got here or how they managed to take over the earth. It also doesn't explain why some humans could survive implantation and others couldn't. But, it does do an excellent job of presenting another take on the idea of being "of two minds." And it places both familial love and romantic love on high pedestals. The actors are fun to watch, do a good job with their parts and are very likable. The story is well paced, humorous at times and makes sense! This is a feel good movie that also has plenty of action. There was only one part that made no sense at all to me, because the actions of the characters were guaranteed to lead to the result which occurred.

It seemed like they were in too much of a hurry to get through the story. The acting was only so so. The script wasn't very good. I really liked the last trailer they made, but it set me up for disappointment in the end. Mostly it was PG except for one scene which I think should not have made it into the movie. It was not in the book either anyway. Disney probably could have made two or three good movies from the book.
Loved the book. Movie was okay, I guess.
Critic Reviews were not very helpful either. Just a lot of derogatory nonsense.
