Didn't Read The Book

For a person who didn't read the book, I would rent this movie instead of going to see it in theaters. It's not something I would buy but, I would watch again with another friend. The timeline of the movie was different than I though it would which made it a little more intresting.

Go see for yourself

I think the film is a great idea. I saw it twice because of my daughter. I am happy to see that people can accept the separation between a body and a soul. Because of the truth in the story I'm on the side of storytellers and to heck with the critics. A critic can not make a movie–but an artist can and will influence a culture. Go see it. WP

I was really rooting for this movie as I really enjoyed the book. I was hoping the author would write more because the book was left open ended. I really hope this movie does not squash that - I think it might sadly. I went with a friend who had not read the book yet so it was interesting to get her take and she enjoyed the movie. There were pockets of teens that would squeal with laughter in some points and I found myself unfortunately chuckling at moments that there shouldn't be a chuckle. There were some enjoyable relationships that understandably had to be removed from the book's story line to adapt it to the movie but I was disappointed that the relationship between Wanda & Ian was not believable. There were quite a few leaps that were in the movie that were not very believable, especially for those who did not read the book. I did like the last 40 mins of the movie though and do hope SM will write another in this series. Sadly, this movie won't be around long.

An enjoyable afternoon

I read the book, loved it and couldn't wait to see the movie. I enjoyed the movie and left the theater feeling refreshed instead of traumatized. If you like movies full of destruction, violence and explosions, this movie is not for you. It is more of an intellectual thriller with a little humor woven in. My tween grandchild also gave it a huge thumbs up.

The Host is terrible

This is one of the worst movies I have seen in years. There are terrible messages to teens: you kiss me, no you kiss me, now both of your kiss me; look at the sperm-things coming out of my neck. Stephanie Meyer wrote this as an adult novel, and I assume that the morons in Hollywood wanted to soak the youth market, so they turned the film into drivel. The pace is painful, there is no real action, and the deep Mormon roots of the author come through as they did in the Twilight movies and books. I would like to have my money back.
