It's been a few years since I read the book when it first came out so I don't have all the details fresh in my head but what I can remember I thought they stayed pretty close to the book. The only thing I didn't like in the movie was the actress Emily Browning who plays Wanda at the end of the movie. The book said she had red hair and freckles. This girl looks like a duck and is not cute in any way! Bad job on casting I think! The rest of the movie I felt was pretty cool. the acting was good.

There is very little body to this film. A story that could have been told within the first 10 minutes was drawn out by useless scenes and dialogue that screamed..."get to the point" ! I also note that the casting director of today should take a page from those of the classic films of Hollywood...and start using "real" looking actors. Everyone in the world isn't "pretty"; in fact, most are pretty plain. With this in mind, I realize that Bogart would never be cast in a film today.
The casting people should at least try to make the cast look different from one another. I was mixing up most of the characters (male) throughout the film. Overall, very disappointing.

Before I went I made the mistake of reading the reviews, but I usually don't take the reviews seriously (since some of my most favorite movies are rated very poorly). I was very please with the Host. Unlike the Twilight serious the acting was very good and they did a great job with following the book. I think that for those who have read the book it is worth going, but if you haven't then it might be worth waiting for redbox. I'm pleased that I went to the theaters to watch this. WIth all of the disapointing movies coming out lately, this was very refreshing.

I didnt read the book ahead of time, but I recall it being out. I think it was entertaining, but not enthralling,
There is a better book out there called "Second Nature" that I hope becomes a movie like this one did.

I like to read, reading is a skill of mine that, I'm sure, many other human beings like to do. I read The Host and it was probably one of the best books that Stephanie Myers has wrote yet! So, of course, when I heard there was a movie coming out based on it, I watched the movie. I sat through about two hours of Andrew Niccol destroying the best book I've ever read! They muddled up things, left things out, didn't go into further detail and explain the things they DID have. My little brother, who refused to go near the book, watched it with me as well and agree with me on the fact that it was a bad movie. He didn't understand what was happening, an because of that didn't like it. For those who haven't read the book, it's a bad movie. I just wouldn't go.
