    close to book

this movie is getting lots of criticism , and while i understand this you cant nit-pick everything. i loved this book and obsessed about it FOREVER.... and to be honest they did pretty good. yes the characters weren't perfect, but they really went into their roles making me ignore the appearance they "should " have. i also missed some cute minor parts like the soccer( you know if you read book) but they kept true to the book and you have to look at bright side of things. i say go especially if you read the book . i went to the 10 pm pre-showing and it was good so just stop over comparing things because you like to complain.

    Absolutely Awful, yet Thoroughly Entertained

This was the worst movie I have seen in a while, but it was worth every penny mostly because I was cracking up for the duration of the movie. Every attempt by this movie to be an actual love story is thwarted by the ridiculous premise of two guys falling in love with two girls inhabiting a single body. Only Stephanie Meyer can complicate a love triangle by giving one of the characters a voice in her head that has different feelings and is prone to violent outbursts. The action was actually done quite well and the side of the plot involving the Seekers vs. Humans has great potential, but every time the movie kicks to the love story, the repressed giggling came back. The internal dialogue of Mel/Wanda just adds to the ridiculousness, especially when Mel is third wheeling in a conversation Wanda is having. There's a great action movie buried somewhere, but it's smothered by a ridiculous love story, bad cinematography, and horrible acting. Strangely though, had a great time.

I had read the book and the movie followed the book very well, although it was slow in some spots. I think that it might be a little odd if someone had not read the book.

    Awful

    by boz113

I will admit, I'm not in the demographic this movie is going for...especially if I consider myself in the demographic of people who actually go to the movies to see a well thought out, entertaining story. The movie is over 2 hours long, and every five minutes I managed to convince myself it was going to pick up at any moment. The plot was monotonous and stagnant, each scene feeling as if it was stuck in a melodramatic loop. The transitions were horrid, and the dialogue turned the movie into an unintentional comedy much of the time. At one point, I thought it may have been just my non-understanding of a book that was written for teenage girls, and I was accepting of that, however, the teenage girls in front of me continuously made fun of the characters, dialogue and situations, to a point where I didn't even care they were talking. I have so much more to say, and not enough characters to say it in. Bottom line, if you're a kid, or an adult, you're wasting your money on this movie.

    The Host

Read the book and was hoping the movie lived up to the copy. It was a winner! Casting was appropriate. The story line will hold your interest and the end is super! If you're on the edge about seeing it, definitely get to your local theater.

    Terrible, absolutely terrible.

I like to read, reading is a skill of mine that, I'm sure, many other human beings like to do. I read The Host and it was probably one of the best books that Stephanie Myers has wrote yet! So, of course, when I heard there was a movie coming out based on it, I watched the movie. I sat through about two hours of Andrew Niccol destroying the best book I've ever read! They muddled up things, left things out, didn't go into further detail and explain the things they DID have. My little brother, who refused to go near the book, watched it with me as well and agree with me on the fact that it was a bad movie. He didn't understand what was happening, an because of that didn't like it. For those who haven't read the book, it's a bad movie. I just wouldn't go.

    Surprisingly good.

I took my fiance to see this because she has read the book about 3 times, and enjoyed the story. I despise the Twilight films, and didn't expect this much from the movie adaptation of a Stephenie Meyer book. It was refreshing, and I enjoyed the film. The story was a cool, the film was well acted, the characters (mostly) did what they needed to in order to tell this story, and I give kudos to Saoirse Ronan for playing two lead characters in the same movie FAR better than Kristen Stewart could ever play one character in her life. My fiance griped that the seeker was supposed to be Asian, but I admire Diane Kruger's work and I think she did a very good job giving us an loveable antagonist in this. Good movie, should not get so much negative criticism. For those who wanted to dish that out, where were you when the Twilight films were out? Praising them. This is far better than any dull human/uninteresting werewolf/sparkling vampire tale. I promise.

    THE HOST

This could have been a real good movie; here comes the but. This film has too many what I call bloopers. It has people doing things that no sane person would have done under the circumstances at hand. The duel voices from Melody and Wanda gets to be distracting. I loved the concept of two souls in one body and each loving a different man. The last 15 minutes are great, too bad the entire movie wasn't at that level of drama and entertaining. This film is from the author of the TWLIGHT trilogy. The girl torn between two guys is repeated here, just different names and a different place. I am going to blame the screenwriter and director for too many of the loose ends and events that only stupid individuals wouldn't even do in real life. The acting is good and the cinematography well done; as is the set design that was the inside of the caves out in the desert. All you car buffs will like the shiny chrome LOTUS'S for sure. I wanted to give this one a go; but I just couldn't do it this time

    The Host was well done

As usual there were parts different from the book, but it was well done. The relationships were what made the movie and book special. That even in another person's body another person's qualities can stand out. It was definitly something I wil buy when it comes on on dvd.

    Worst book to movie EVER!

    by klawing

I fell in love with all of the characters in this book. I have read and re-read it several times in fact, because i love it so much. I get that the book was super detailed and alot of it probably wouldnt translate to movie or it would be hours long. BUT, the movie moved so fast it almost didnt make sense. The resistance (or whatever you want to call them) HATED the souls. In the book, it took a while for her to be accepted into the group. In the movie, its all "Ok, youre one of us." Mels "inner voice" was obnoxious and stupid. Also, where the heck was Walter? Or Sharron, whom originally Melanie almost died trying to contact? And when, at any point, did they have electricity in the caves? I mean Doc had a freaking computer AND a printer. The kitchen had appliances. And none of them were at all grubby and malnourished from being on cave rations. BLEH.
*pros: at least they attempted to make it a movie
*cons: I want my $8.50 and my two hours back.
Id rather read it than watch it again.

    An enjoyable afternoon

    by

I read the book, loved it and couldn't wait to see the movie. I enjoyed the movie and left the theater feeling refreshed instead of traumatized. If you like movies full of destruction, violence and explosions, this movie is not for you. It is more of an intellectual thriller with a little humor woven in. My tween grandchild also gave it a huge thumbs up.

Loved it but I thought it could have been a little more... :)

I loved the book read it 5 times and feel like i have been wating forever for this movie, for a book to movie adaptation it was good. I wish they could have done some of the stuff from the book like the soocer and what happened to Walter?? Didn't see a whole lot of Jamie and the stories from Wanda. It seemed like they took a lot of the emotion out of the movie. But i have learned that my imagination is just better and I lower my expectations. Going in i was not sure about the cast but they really won me over execpt I thought kyle would have been bigger and Pet/Wanda should have been blonde right and the Seeker should have had black hair. I highly recommend it! I will buy it when it comes out and watch it over and over like i do Twilight :)

Close to the book, good movie

First of all, if you haven't read the book then you are probably going to see the movie because it based on a book by Stephanie Meyer, who also wrote the Twilight series...do not expect a story similar to Twilight. Even book readers had a hard time switching gears into something other than Twilight. This movie is more Sci-Fi, but still has the drama and love story. If you are a reader, this is a good read - you just have to not compare it to Twilight and have imagination. Admittedly, I do wonder if someone who hasn't read the book will fully understand the movie.

If you have read the book, you will find that (like most movies made from books) they left some things out. There were some things that I wish they had put in (not going to spoil by giving examples). However, the movie is still good and well cast. The graphics and set designs are really good.

    Bottom line, I say GO!
