Intense movie, definitely documentary...
I saw it with the wife two weeks ago. It was emotionally intense. I am an Aspie, so I could identify in some parts. I also have a relative who is developmentally delayed. It was a good documentary, but I kept wondering through the film what the angle was. The thought came to me: how could the parents afford to go off to Mongolia? Then I realized that there was a book as well, so we have a tie-in. Sorry to be cynical, but if you watch closely, you can also see the creation of the horse farm afterward. So to be cynical, this story was part of a larger tie-in.
Who looks at their kid and says, we need to go to Mongolia to help them? What brought us to that conclusion? I don't think it was really covered in the film. I think it would have been more effective to see the how and not just the why and the gosh.
Good movie, but it begs all sortsa questions. If you are involved with autism, go see it. If you are interested, go see it, but its not for a general audience.
