Throughout the entirety of the Lord of the Rings, it grips you into a vice of splendid fantasy that you can't possibly escape. As for the Hobbit films, it at first introduces the world everyone knows quite well and leaves it, at the end, with unquenchable suspense. The second brought in more mystery and excitement only to leave it once again, at an impassable cliff hanger. The third and final film started with the destruction of Lake Town and you knew this was what you had been waiting for. But, then it became riddled with cliché after cliché. It eventually just became a waiting game for all the pieces to come together for the inevitable battle of the five armies. From the very beginning of the battle to the end, it was amazing. Then as the farewells and passings of characters came and went, the ending of the movie simply left you...empty. Like there was no resolve. I'm not sure if Bilbo's house being ransacked was part of the book, but it made the feeling of finally being back lost.
