Like the book, drahs in some places, but in some places, the scenes shift too much - would cayse a seizure in those prone to getting them from visual stimuli. HOWEVER, it left me sitting with a Meh. It was kind of like the second Back to the Future - not a real conclusion o the story line, but just a half fulfilled bridge to the final movie. I can hardly wait for the blu ray extended version boxed set.

I feel completely ripped off. This movie turned me off to trilogies

If you've not seen it already, wait for the DVD...but don't watch it until the 3rd movie is out. I enjoyed the first one a great deal. This one, not so much. Now I know why some who'd read the book were baffled by how they'd stretch The Hobbit into 3 movies. Easy. By sacrificing the 2nd installment. The movie doesn't get good or interesting in my opinion until near the end when we finally get to Smaug. The rest of the movie pales drastically in comparison. The problem...the rip off...is that the movie ends abruptly in the middle of the Smaug adventure. Ending earlier, when the situation seemed to be resolved may have helped. Then they could have teased there was going to be more without leaving the audience hanging so high. After this let down, I'll no longer see multi-part movies unless each one in the series is self-contained and resolves its part of the adventure at the end (like Harry Potter, for example...except for #7). Otherwise, I'll wait until the rentals are all out.

Bunch of fru-fru special effects....

This movie lacked in substance. Characters were flattened from the fullness of Tolkien's creation. Really a disappointment.

This movie is an excellent continuation of the Hobbit series, and even though it is quite long, it didn't seem as such. The movie developed in the usual flair and excitement, gave a great preview to the character's backgrounds from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and developed to a expected climax only to be CONTINUED!!! Oh well, must wait until the second edition to see how this all comes to a conclusion.

Assorted laugh out loud scenes and incredible fight scenes make this an enjoyable movie. The story line moves fast enough to make you forget the film is 2hrs and 40mins long.
