If you enjoyed the first "Hobbit" movie, then do not miss this!
The film has its faults. The pace is uneven: we fly through Mirkwood but spend over an hour in Erebor. Characters have introductions, but locations do not (Lake-town comes out of nowhere). And there's a major battle with Orcs almost every twenty minutes. If you're a Tolkien fan, brace yourself for more major changes.
Still, many of the flaws "Journey" had have been addressed. The painfully juvenile jokes are gone; this is definitely a PG-13 movie. Many characters are given more time to let their personalities show (especially the Dwarves, thank heavens). The action scenes are larger and more intense. "Journey" had its boring moments; "Desolation" kept me glued. And as for the titular Dragon... personally I'd say he alone was worth the price of admission.
Even if the first one failed to please you, I'd still recommend this. It has its faults, but Jackson delivers enough action, character, and Smaug to compensate.

This was a really good movie. More personality is added to the characters. It had me laughing at scenes and other times I was on the edge of my seat.

Liked the film a lot. This one had almost non-stop adventure and the action on screen and kept a good pace. Can't wait to see the final Hobbit film.

I am a Hobbit fan and have been since 1971 when I first read The Hobbit and the Fellowship trilogy. The movie was well done and although doesn't get every detail the book gets, it stays with the storyline. I was surprised it ended where it did, but that will keep the suspense for the third movie. All in all, I loved it.

Loved-Loved-Loved this movie - thought it would be too long, but with all the action, surprises and 'romance', it flew by and then was over! Definitely a big screen must see!
