One of the WORST cinematic experiences I've had in twenty years.

    by

We went to see the HFR (High Frame Rate, 48 frames per second( IMAX 3D version of the movie and it was so awful we left after 40 minutes and go our money back.

The HFR was terrible. The backgrounds were all overexposed and blown out, the characters looked like puppets, you could see all of the make-up on the actors and everything looked like a bad Hallmark movie from the 1980's.

The combination of the HFR and the 3D also gave both of us headaches.

In addition, the story was God-awful boring. We both fell asleep during the first twenty minutes.

The only way I would see this movie is in normal 2D, normal frame rate and if someone gave me a free copy of the DVD so I could sit through it in my own home.

Peter Jackson should be ashamed of himself for doing such a poor job on what could have been a great movie.

DO NO WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

The Hobit: An unexpected journey HFR IMAX 3D

In two words!! EYE CANDY!! A must see in HFR IMAX 3D. I had a bird fly not only at me but it flew all the way past me and at one time I thought some one was standing next to me. If nothing else the scienery it self is worth watching. loved every bit of it but the ending,,, but ok I get it,,, they have to leave off somewhere.

    Fantastic and Exciting....

Do not listen to people that say this movie is no good. I really enjoyed the way the movie flowed. The pace of the story and the action was focused on keeping the audience entertained and that is the reason we go to the movies in the first place. The special effects were simply amazing in Imax 3-d. (I highly recommend watching this in Imax 3-d by the way but it will still be very good without it). This was hands down the best movie I ever watched in 3-D. All of the characters were full of humor, heroism, and charm. I appreciated the light humor, I think it was refreshing to see that type of almost childlike humor again rapped around a spectacular adventure full of orcs, monstors, elves and of course HoBBits! Go see it, and enjoy.

    Totally awesome!

    by

This is a wonderful build-up for the remaining two movies in the Hobbit trilogy! It was great to see some of my favorite characters from the Two Towers: Gandalf, Frodo, Galadriel, Eldron and, of course, Golum and the elder Bilbo Baggins! We also get to meet the gang of (13) dwarves -- beautifully cast, I might add!

But the graphics -- what a blast! At no other time in my life am I going to get to fly on the back of an eagle! (Or, luckily, get shot with an arrow!) Character development was awesome. I haven't read The Hobbit in over 30 years so I barely remember the story but my nephew told me a few things that were special to the movie. I asked him if that bothered him and he said "Not really" that it was just more story and good for the movie!

The only thing that kind of surprised me was - the singing. Once I got over the shock, it was actually pretty funny and FUN!

This is a "Must Go" movie but I can only vouch for the HFR/3-D version.

    They forgot to edit it

Within the 3 hours, there is a great 2 hour movie. Too many times looked at watch to see what time it was - not a good sign. Yeah, there is some great scenes, but they are hurt by the lack of editing. Not sure how they can make one book into 3 movies - what I do know is if they continue to fail to edit and put our another 3 hour film that should have been 2 hours or less will really kill any hope for number 3. On the plus side, the 3D effects are becoming to much a part of the movie that it takes a bit to go back to normal screens.

    Worth the money

    by Avyon

I wasn't used to the HFR Imax experience so at first it was so sharp it just looked comically fake. The other issue I had is some of the fight/chase scenes looked comically sped up as well. Once I got used to it though it was stunning and the movie was wonderfully done compared to the book. I know this has nothing to do with the movie but my favorite part of going was there was a young boy next to us who sat on the edge of his seat the whole time just sucked into the experience. I can't wait for the next to come out :)

    beautiful

I thought this movie was so stunningly beautiful, I loved the added scenes and footage. The HFR is amazing. I wish it had been the entire movie, I would have totally sat for nine hours and loved every minute.

    Great Time!

I did the full gamut of features to the movie and feel good about my decision. IMAX. 3D. HFR. They all worked from me and added to the great execution of The Hobbit.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - EPIC!!!

I think that the movie was executed well. It leads into the next installment perfectly. The actors playing the dwarves are hilarious! :)... And it is always good to see Gandalf! :)I would for sure recommend this film to any die-hard Lord of the Rings Fan. Can't wait for the next movie!! :)

    Unreal

    by

This movie is fantastic. Lots of action and beautiful scenery throughout. I did find it a bit scarey at times so its not recommended for small children. MUST BE SEEN IN IMAX 3D or better. p.s. There was a "hint" of another movie coming. ENJOY

3D HFR, the way of the future

Saw TH in IMAX 3D HFR. First: I did NOT get sick. It was a phenomenal experience. Perfect for the fantasy realm of the film. 48fps is the way of the future, I'm sure. A couple of glitches where the action looked sped up, but once they get those under control, I'm sure many movies will use this. Also, it's much easier to follow quick action in 48fps, I found.
