    INCREDIBLE!!

    by RLHawk

I was so incredibly pleased with The Hobbit!! I was completely entranced and delighted the entire movie, I couldn't stop smiling my head off 'cause I was so happy! It was awesome! Seriously, after seeing this, I'm still giddy the next morning with delight at how good it was!

Also, I really liked the 48FPS! Everything was SO smooth, even the fast shots! And the 3D was used to make it look incredible without a bunch of useless 3D stuff thrown in simply for effect. And IMAX is awesome. And most of all, this movie was just absolutely incredible!

    Great!

I really enjoyed watching this! And the HFR made it look like I was watching it on a HUGE 3D HDTV! Hope more movies are made like this

    Back to Middle Earth!

An exciting and sometimes ambitious return to Middle Earth at the more-than-capable helm of Peter Jackson. As with The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the story stays faithful to the source material with few exceptions, most of which allow for better cinematic portrayals of certain scenes. Also with the LotR trilogy, extra material is taken (mainly from the Appendices of the LotR books) to further flesh out a side plot that is only briefly mentioned and alluded to in the Hobbit novel.
All on all, a fun time was had.

High Film Rate not ready for Prime Time

    by MedRed

As expected, Peter Jackson creates a masterpiece. There really aren't any surprises here. The Hobbit is rendered with intricate detail and pushes the boundaries of CGI. I'm ready for the next two movies!

    Regarding High Film Rate:
Despite the mumblings of its shortcomings, I decided to give it a go. It definitely ups the realism factor a LOT! Unfortunately, things look so real that the characters appear as actors on set in a play. The difference is similar to watching a show like CSI versus a soap opera. What's worse, everything that is artificial looks artificial. Falling rain? looks fake. Man made stone steps? They look fake. Backdrops created by a blue/green screen? Not only do they look fake, the characters stand out against them. Lighting will be the biggest hurdle for HFR. Artificial lighting is highly noticeable and doesn't blend in at all. Even the lightening during the thunderstorm appears fake. On the plus side, HFR is kind to CGI elements in the foreground. Pass on HFR.

    One word...EPIC!

I never thought the movies can wow me like Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit".
I preordered my tickets a week advance for me and my sweetheart. Made sure it was Imax 3D [Yes it's that good no gimmicks especially with the new FPS standard at 48]. We got there early and many Tolkien fans were already lined up outside. We took our position on line and waited. My love wasn't sure it was here type of movie but somehow I knew she would be changed after and I was not wrong. Folks if you enjoy childhood fairy tale movies then watch this. If you feel movies are to expensive to justify what there giving us then make this the one to justify that price. I'm still in awe. Never have I seen such rich locales and Computer graphics blended together in such rich detail. James Cameron's Avatar has been toppled and that movie was quite a sight. Cinematography is one thing but what of the story? As a Tolkien fan Mr. Jackson has done more than good. The tale stays true to form. I'm out of words. Just go. Now!

    The Hobbit

Movie had great architectural scenes of the fairies home and other places. However, the story is very long and drawn out and end abruptly so you know there is a sequel.

Fans of the Book will Love the Movie!

    by

HFR takes a bit of getting used to, but this movie is a great adult adaption of what is in essence a children's book. Go for it!

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Great special effects, and cinematography. Make-up is superb, looks real on actors. Costumes are very creative, and pertinent to the time period in Middle Earth. I would guess that this movie will be up for Academy Awards in each of those four categories. Movie makers used much poetic license making this movie. I didn't remember the book being so detailed. I wonder if Tolkein would have liked this version of his book? I would recommend you see this movie! However, it is a tad long. The second movie in the trilogy is coming out this year, the third one in 2014. As far as I can tell, the main actors will be the same. What is amazing is that three separate parts of the movie had to be made to look larger and smaller. In other words, the part of Gandolf had to look bigger than the Dwarfs who needed to be smaller with the Hobbit as the smallest. As a result, the actors had to play to people wearing blue screen outfits, instead of the whole cast in real time. Looking forward to seeing more!

    HFR Rocks!

    by

I heard mixed reviews about it being "too clear" or "looks fake"... I thought it was wonderful! The next step in movie-making... brings you into the movie.. I felt like I was there! And, sometimes 3D IMAX makes me a little dizzy/nauseated or have a headache... this took all that away. Loved!

    Amazing experience

    by Creatch

Seeing The Hobbit in IMAX 3D at the high frame rate was AMAZING! I'm so glad I went for the full meal deal. I can't count the number of times I felt like I was "in" a scene. While I'm still puzzled and a bit pissed about Peter Jackson stretching this little novel into 3 films, what he's doing to advance film making is brilliant. Also, Martin Freeman is absolutely terrific as Bilbo. Perfect casting.

    Looked great in IMAX

It was a visually beautiful movie and the cast seemed well-suited for their roles.
I was expecting more from the music and it was pretty long, but there were some funny moments.

    MAGICALLY AWESOME!

From the moment Gandalf comes onto the scene, you know something magical is about to happen. A young Bilbo Baggins is a homebody whose world is about to change as he is unwittingly included in an overreaching plan to regain the homeland of the dwarves. By Gandalf's secret invitation, they descend upon his quiet home with mannerless panache to plot their move to slay the dragon "who" holds their homeland hostage. He wants nothing to do with this wretched bunch until they leave and he realizes he may never get a chance at adventure like this again, so he joins them. The rest is cinematic magic when all sorts of unimaginable foes and monsters try to foil their journey, including Gollem; the scenes in which he steals with his creepy wonder are pure joy. It took a while to get used to the HFR format, but once my eyes adjusted, it was a pleasure to watch. Although the 3D was not as intense as I would have liked, it was still amazing. So for a rousing adventure, I rate this a must see!

    Story not for 3 movies

Despite it has some good moments, I think this story is not worth to make 3 movies for it, the whole story should have been ended with this movie; this fact makes this one to have some unnecessary scenes. Also, the HFR sometimes made the close ups so detailed that the magic is somehow lost, the makeup is very evident. Finally, the story is not as catching as I would have imagined.

Peter Jackson has up'ed the game with this movie.

I loved the first installment. It went so quickly I could not believe three hours had expired. The 3-SD was great, but the High Frame Rate was incredible. Everything was so vivids and alive. It Was as if you were there not just watcing.

Great Movie but audio was out of sync with video

Paid $17 for great IMAX experience and was disappointed with the quality. The audio was out of synce With the video.

Even with the quality issue that was a big disappointment the movie was great. Will go see again hoping the issue will be resolved.
