My first review. It is long, but for Middle Earth fans, its great. Gives you more time to immerse. Think the higher film framerate was fine. Thought that visually, it was beautiful. They spent some extra time with background and tied it in to the coming of Sauron and the LOTR. Enjoyed it!

3D HFR Version - Whats there and what isnt

The 48 frames per second takes a good minute to get used to, the sad part is, the beginning is the worst place to get used to it. - While characters look and feel real, when your close up to characters the scene looks like it was never edited in post, where production quality motion blur is usually added and your imagination kicks in to fill in the blurs, and as the camera was very close to characters in a very small hobbit home, you may swear a YouTube amateur filmed it. - Let's be honest, it took away from the magic, but i assure you it was only apparent during the close ups at the beginning of the movie. - The rest of the movie benefited from having 48fps, the large environments looked amazing and real, the 48fps helped both real and CGI environments to reel you into the scene. Whats better is action sequences with large amounts of cgi characters looked more realistic than ever thanks to 48fps, having a cgi character able to smoothly appear on film helps sell the whole thing.

Best Movie EVER!

This film was excellent! It is only fitting that this epic adventure story becomes an epic film...epic was the first word that came to mind after I saw The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at the midnight premiere...but, then, I was expecting it to be. I was awed at the special effects and the marvelous talent. The HFR was not what I was used to seeing and it was hard to focus at times in fast-moving sequences, but the depth it gave to the film made me feel like I was really along for the ride! The cinematography was breathtaking! Also, the theatre was packed and the excitement throughout the crowd was electric. It was an absolutely phenomenal experience! I can't wait for the next two films! Whether you choose to see the film in IMAX, HFR 3D or regular, you will not be disappointed! It's the Hobbit for goodness sake! What are you waiting for?

Loved it and will see it again. If you go to see it, watch in High Frame Rate 3D. The clarity and crisp view of background scenes is amazing and unbelievable

The Hobbit

After a bit of a slow start this adventure delivered an action packed first part of Bilbo Baggins notorious journey. Breaking the story into smaller pieces for the purpose of providing a more detailed series of films allows the movie to really explore more of the subtle parts of this iconic story. The casting was great and the actors delivered a true depiction of what fans expected of these characters. The script was much more true to the book and the special effects were better than the Lord of the Rings Trilogy as this movie seemed to display many new improvements in CGI technology. I very much enjoyed this movie especially in 3D and can't wait for the next installment of the series. This movie is definitely a winner and I would recommend it to everyone, even though the midnight showing was tough!
