Very realistic 3D, not overdone with the flying at you effects. The Dwarves singing Misty Mountaisn is haunting and awesome in surround sound. Can't wait to see The Desolation of Smaug in 2013!

I felt like I was actually there walking in Middle Earth. It looked so real. The story does not follow the book all the way. There were quite a few hollywood bits thrown in. This is one movie you HAVE to see in the theater! I plan to see it again and will purchase it once it comes out!

Been waiting for this movie for a long time. I kinda had a feeling it would be bloated. three movies from one book. and Jackson did show in King Kong that he can drag a scene to the point of the audience saying "Enough already, get on with the movie". and I never been a fan of the 48fps technique. But WOW!! the Hobbit, Is just an awesome movie. beautifully crafted and wonderfully told. Not bloated at all. I opted for the usual 24 instead of the 48 (Which AMC calls High Frame on the ticket) in 3D. The 3D complemented it very well. And just like LOTR Jackson was not only very true to the book, but also to his original vision of middle earth. the characters, the language, everything. just like LOTR. Now he did add his own parts to tie it in with the Lord of the Rings. But did it in a way that it didn't interfere with the movie at all in fact it added to the flavor.

HFR sucks but HOBBIT is worth a one-time watch.

Saw it on Friday Night on a HFR screen. Its like watching a Soap Opera, a TV show. That being said the movie itself has some scenes which could be avoided to reduce the running time. Scenes like the 2 mountains fighting, gandalf's wizard companion resurrection of some mouse, the dwarf fighting the 3 giant orcs until gandalf turns them into a stone, these scenes just prolong the movie and bore you. Thou one-time watch definitely due to the spectacular 3D effects and visuals.

I loved it! It was great seeing old friends (Gandalf, Elrond, Frodo, Galadriel, Saruman [snooty as ever!]). It also was great to meet the new characters: young Bilbo and Gloin (father of Gimli?). I'm always impressed by the ugliness and creepiness afforded by the Orcs, Trolls and other antagonists. Who dreams up these nightmares? They're great, though! I have to admit, though, that I wasn't too impressed by the HFR. I never have problems with the "regular" 3D, so I didn't notice whether this new 3D is a better experience.
