I was apprehensive about the movie after reading the critics' review on Rotten Tomatoes. I have now decided that most critics don't know what they are talking about. I will be going back to see this again. I was so happy to be back in Middle Earth, this time with more action and a stellar performance from Andy Serkis as Gollum. Martin Freeman was a fantastic young Bilbo. It didn't seem 3 hours long. I can't wait for December 13, 2013! Go see this now!

I first must admit I have been a JRR Tolkien fan since I read the hobbit when I was ten (I'm 50 now) While a movie can never capture or match the essence and words of the author or the imagination of the reader, I found the move very enjoyable and captured the sense of adventure, joy and action of the book. I found that it retained some of the humor and depth of the book. For some it may seem to start out slowly but I enjoyed how it built some backstory to some of the characters.
I think the PG13 rating is deserved as the fight scenes can be overwhelming as in the Lord of The Rings trilogy however it does not contain the gore that you find overwhelmingly some action films today. However such action is part of the essence of the book as the group journey's to their goal. If you like 3D, it is a must see in that format.
I'm looking forward to the sequel and completion of the "Journey" as Bilbo has many advenures yet to come.......

Stupid monster chase scene after chase scene. Infantile with no character development, no plot to speak of and just silly monsters arriving with new gremlins every 5 minutes and then wizards magically coming to the rescue. Waste of 3 hours and $60 for 3 D.
