Loved it, can't wait for the next one

The hobbit has a special place for me, it's the first real book I remember reading and so it has a sentimental touch. An Unexpected Journey is a great film. It has a much lighter tone than LotR but that is in keeping with the source material. I was especially surprised how the numerous songs which filled the book were actually included in a fairly seamless manner. Some parts with goblins and orcs may be a bit frightening for small children. As you may expect from the length, there are several scenes not from the book. Mostly additional back story and scenes to tie this movie back to the LotR. There was a bit too much shakey cam during action scenes but the overall effect was fine. I saw it in IMAX 3D. IMAX was worth it, the 3D was good but not necessary.

Phenomenal, it absolutely kept in the tradition of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Can't wait for the follow on movies and the whole thing to be released on video to add to our collection!

if you liked the various books, you'll like this

After seeing reviews about the unnecessary length of the movie, I was pleasantly surprised by how watchable and engaging it was. I thought the different additions (except for those strange mountain creatures) helped build up the context of the movie. Of course, much of the additions were familiar to me from reading through the appendices of Tolkien's books. If you're a big Tolkien fan, you'll enjoy and understand the additions, otherwise, it might not make sense. David

I would say the movie overall was very good with a lot of action. There were some spots in the film that could be cut out. The acting was excellent.

Lord of the Rings Part 4

Its exactly as you'd expect. If you saw Lord of the Rings, any of them, then its more of that. Just with a different plot. The attention to detail, the level of acting, and the production value are all amazing. If I had to think of a criticism, 1. It feels long, but its over three hours, thats to be expected. 2. Radagast the Brown is very silly. and 3. The king of the Goblins has this huge empty ******* attached to his face. You have been warned.
