Great efects, really great 3D, only thing I can see wrong with the movie is it is not the whole thing. Stopped the movie before it was over as per the book. What the hell! If this was part 1, state that this is part 1. I felt really let down. How long before we get to see the rest?

I went into this movie with my doubts yet from the first frame I was drawn in.
Introducing the movie via 2 of the key characters from LOTRO just before it begins
was a stroke of genius.
This movie was a fun and unexpected experience..you.. well at least I forgot I was in the
theater. The movie moves at such at a pace that you are drawn into the adventure yourself not only that ..the characters both good and evil hold your attention. The costumes, the sets, the makeup and the music and the songs amazing.
The cgi was extraordinary...the Goblin King, the warg riders, Azog was absolutely fantastic.
The bit with Bert, Bill and Tom was so very funny but the funniest and also the most endearing was the first meeting with Gollum...that was so classic.
Seeing this movie in IMAX 3D brought this picture to life significantly.
Yes its Peter Jackson's movie but it was Guillermo Del Toro's input which sealed it for me
I knew I HAD TO SEE what Del Toro brought to The Hobbit..spectacular.

The singing was a little weird and not repeated (which begs the question of why it was there at all). I also can't figure out why this is going to take 3 movies to get through.

This was just as good as the LOTR trilogy if not better. The Bilbo character had a "personality", which was missing in the Frodo character from The LOTR. The dwarves were very entertaining and made you want to pull up a chair and sing along with them.
