AMAZING!!

Great movie! It's a MUST SEE ahh I loved it!

It's a classic...why would you miss it?

My kids started reading the book and was glad he had an understanding of all the complexities of the story because he had seen the movie first. That's the opposite of what we encourage at home, however, even I had trouble reading The Hobbit and am so glad I finally understand the story!

Great for Lord of the Rongs Fans

I loved this movie as I loved all the others. I couldn't believe it was nearly three hours as there was never a dull moment. Great characters and the cinematography was stunning, as to be expected.

mediocre for adults, maybe better for kids

I read the book, the Hobbit and it is pretty thin. Stretching this little book into a Trilogy - 3 films, 2 1/2 to 3hrs in length each, yielded predictable results. BORING!! There were incredible scenes, majestic with sweeping beauty. If only cuts were made!

Critics are too picky

The Hobbit is not The Lord of the Rings. It is a smaller, quieter story, and the movie remembers this...to some extent. The story framework from the book is enhanced with material from The Silmarillion, which tells the backstories and side stories. Yes, there are no gory battles on the scale of Return of the King, but there are fights and hightened conflicts. The richness of the characters, fleshing out 13 dwarves who are difficult to distinguish in the book.

The one sequence that left me rolling my eyes, was the chase through the goblins halls under the Misty Mountains. i would have preferred something less grand and more believeable!

But in the end I left the theater yearning for the next two flims. Bravo Peter Jackson. Pooh, pooh critics.

Excellent Prequel

Wow, you know a movie is very good when you get lost in the story itself instead of all the special effects, of which there were plenty. Excellent story-telling I must say. And the 3D thing really didn't get in the way either. it was used to good effect. I rarely go to movies in the theatre anymore just cuz there just aren't that many movies worth spending $11 on. But this one... you gotta see it on the big IMAX screen. It really is worth it.

1) Danger of following counsel of naive doves. Scene: Saruman discounting that the signs Gandalf identifies are indicative of any real threat to peace.
2) Value of individual courage. This is a key theme of the movie with Bilbo not be valued throughout the movie, but in the end saving the day. Defining scene: Gandalf's response to Galadriel's question as to why the halfling - "Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay... small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? That's because I am afraid and it gives me courage."

The movie was great, I really enjoyed everything about the movie. The acting was great and the special effects were awesome. Peter Jackson's attention to detail is ridiculous and it shows I'm this film.

Great but Long

Really enjoyed the movie, but in typical Peter Jackson style, it was long and not complete. IMAX 3D was amazing. I highly recommend it, but don't drink too much coffee before the movie starts!

Great Movie

If you enjoyed the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, you will enjoy this movie. Of course there isn't anything spectacular or really new if you know the story, but I feel this movie was very well done. It also looks great in IMAX 3-D.

The Hobbit

The Hobbit was much more playful than the Lord of the Rings movies. I loved the way the previous movies were shot that gave them that mystical quality, however the less serious nature of this movie lent itself to the more clear 3D cameras that were used.

Still and epic tale. You must go. Don't miss it.
